Your Hospital is able to provide complex care for you and your family thanks to people like Vic Mitchell; caring individuals who, for one reason or another, GIFT EVERY MONTH to ensure our heath care teams are prepared with the most up to date technology and equipment to save lives.
In Vic’s case, it was personal. He came back from a trip to the Bahamas and became so violently ill he was too weak to speak or stand up. “I was in the hospital for a month and had so many tests that the staff knew me by name. I was pretty down, weak and scared.” Vic said.
They thought they found the problem but only a month later, Vic’s pain returned and he was back in the Sturgeon. This time rushed to emergency surgery for a bowel leak. These can be life-threatening. “After surgery I didn’t know if I was going to make it” he said. But the doctors and nurses of the Sturgeon Hospital were not giving up on Vic and neither was he.
He is a determined man who survived stomach cancer only 10 years ago. Finally, after being in and out of the hospital for six months, his surgeon solved the mystery and once treated he was finally well enough to go home.
“I told them thanks for the kindness and thanks for the care. They would say – it’s my job. But I am still here. To me that is more than a job, it’s priceless!”
In honor of the care he received Vic wanted to give back and Gives Every Month to the Sturgeon Hospital Foundation. The GIFT EVERY MONTH program is an easy way to give in small amounts. Your monthly donations go a long way to improving the lives of people in Sturgeon County, St. Albert, and North Edmonton.
