St. Albert’s premier fundraising event of the season was back for its 30th Anniversary. The evening sparkled more brightly than ever as we joined our friends together for an exquisite night of fine dining, entertainment and luxury auction.
Our 30th Anniversary Gala, on January 28th, was not only a night to remember thanks to the nearly 650 people who attended dressed to the nines, it was also our most successful Gala to date! The room buzzed with the excitement of being back together again for the first time in three years and that buzz led to us raising over $400,000 for a dedicated Clinical Simulation Centre at our hospital.
As Gala Chair, Corinna Dooley said from the podium, ‘This Clinical Simulation centre is designed to support inter-disciplinary learning, where everyone who participates – paramedic, nurse, respiratory therapist, resident, or physician – is a learner. Simulation based learning fosters opportunities for making mistakes, trying new skills and processes and learning together.
‘Reaching beyond any one clinical area, the participants raise their collective competence, leaning into the strengths of their team and challenging themselves both personally and professionally.
‘Now building a simulation centre isn’t just about getting the latest “mannequin” and executing different scenarios – it’s about fostering the spirit of learning at our hospital and demonstrating our commitment to innovation. With this Centre, our hospital is connecting into a provincial simulation program – supported by a province-wide team of professionals, we are joining the ranks of much bigger hospitals in this educational revolution. One that will carry us into the next 30 years.’
Thanks to everyone who sponsored, supported and attended the Gala. It is thanks to your generosity that countless more lives will be saved and changed every day at the Sturgeon Community Hospital for years to come.
